Career Records

The following are the top 10 career statistical leaders to the best of my knowledge in some of the main wrestling categories as well as the fastest RECORDED fall (sorry Luke Vollmer) at every weight class in Maple Grove history.  I've also included some of the current wrestlers who look like they could find themselves in the top 10 within the next couple of seasons.

Just for fun I decided to as subjectively as possible determine the top careers in school history.  I have assigned a point value to the major accomplishments all the wrestlers in school history could possibly have achieved during their high school careers.  I then totaled every wrestler’s points to identify the 25 most successful wrestling careers in school history according to this system.  Here’s how the scoring was weighted:

  1. The ultimate accomplishment in high school wrestling is winning a state championship.  Being a state place winner is the next most impressive accomplishment.  Points were given as follows for State Tournament Placement -- 1st (200 points), 2nd (100), 3rd (90), 4th (75), 5th (65) and 6th (50).

2.    Qualifying for the state tournament is the next biggest goal.  For each time a wrestler qualified for state they were awarded 25 points.  (Note:  If at some point I’m able to find out which qualifiers placed 1st and 2nd at sections in the early years I will award 25 points for being a section champ and 15 for being a section runner-up.  Right now that was not possible so all state entrants have been awarded 25 points).

3.    Each career varsity win earned one point.

4.    All-Time category leaders in the following categories: Career reversals, career  escapes, career 3-point near falls, and career 2-point near falls - were awarded between one and ten points based on their ranking within in that category.  For example Luke Greder ranks first all time in escapes so he has been awarded 10 points for that category.  Jake Nord ranks 10th all time in escapes so he was awarded one point for that category.

5.    All-Time category leaders in the following categories: Career winning percentage, career team points, career pins, and career takedowns - were ranked the same way and then that point value was doubled due to the significance of these categories.  For example Brett Healy ranks first in career takedowns and received 20 points.  Adam Whirley ranks tenth in career takedowns and received 2 points.

6.    Each All-Conference earned was worth 10 points.  Again I would have awarded 5 points for each All-Conference honorable mention earned but I don’t have access to all that information from some of the early years.

That’s how it was done.  Feel free to email me at UWECWrestling@Hotmail.com with questions or suggestions regarding this method.  Anyway, according to the formula applied here are the best 25 wrestling careers in Maple Grove history:

Once again I have some but not all of the information for 99-00 and 02-03.  If anybody has the books from those season's and could lend them to me that would be great.  Email me at UWECWrestling@Hotmail.com if that would be possible.  Thanks.
